Aft Cabin - Port Side
After having minimal success with the aft head, I took my chances and begun work on the port-side, aft cabin. I know professionals would have drawn up plans with precise measurements, which is a very logical approach to a boat interior redesign. Unfortunately that’s not how my brain works. I’m a design as you go, kind of have an idea, hope for the best, person. Which, as a designer, allows for a more evolutionary process. I’m betting this may not work out as well in construction, but let’s see where it goes.
After determining which materials I would use, I began building out the side walls for the engine access hatch. I then built out the opposite side storage. So far, so good. Now came the challenge, the vanity. This would require a demo of the existing sink and cabinet first before I could start redesigning it into something a little more updated. Again, I had a rough idea of what I wanted it to look like, getting it to a more finished appearance turned out to be a little more challenging than expected.
